Spiegel SYP Weathered Barnwood

Happy Thanksgiving!

Are you looking for a true reclaimed, naturally weathered, and economical "barnwood" product to use for an interior application? We have a really great option for you to consider: Spiegel Southern Yellow Pine Weathered Lumber.

The well-known Spiegel catalog company maintained a series of warehouse buildings -- most built during the early 1900s -- in Chicago's South Side. Over time, these buildings were replaced with newer, state-of-the-art distribution facilities and many of the old warehouses were taken down. Trestlewood was able to obtain several truckloads of 3"x6" and 3"x8" decking material that served as flooring in many of the buildings.
SYP weathered lumber (Spiegel's 1x6)
All of the 3"x8" material Trestlewood acquired from the warehouse has been sold, but we took a good portion of the 3"x6" and cut it into 1" lumber (the 6" width is nominal, so actual width is closer to 5.5"). We then laid this material out to naturally weather, resulting in a beautiful, reclaimed "barnwood" product. The lumber has a mostly gray, circle-sawn texture with regular nail holes and other reclaimed characteristics.

Because this material is Southern Yellow Pine, we primarily recommend it for interior use. The restaurant and bar pictured here, in the Albuquerque, New Mexico airport, utilized the Spiegel SYP Weathered Lumber as trim around its counters and reception area.
