Live-Edge Mantels - Product Info

Trestlewood's Live-Edge Mantels are unique pieces, often taken from Mixed Hardwood Sleeper Middles (although softwoods are often used as well), that retain a "live"/natural front edge. Many customers also use these pieces for shelves or other applications like table tops and benches.

NOTE: If you are a Do-It-Yourself type (and would like to save some money!) you may consider purchasing an Unfinished Live-Edge Mantel and doing your own finishing. This document contains some Do-It-Yourself Tips from our in-house mantel guru:

SpeciesMixed Hardwood (may include elm, ash, beech, maple, hickory, others). Trestlewood may sort for a specific hardwood under certain circumstances.
SourceBarns, buildings and industrial structures from different locations in North America
HC/FOHCResawn Hardwood Timbers are generally HC; usually moderate to very tight growth rings.
MetalNails, bolts and other fasteners are removed or occasionally cut flush or broken off inside the material.
Mortise Pockets/Notches/HolesJoinery pockets and nail, bolt and other fastener holes are allowed; the quantity and size of the pockets and holes can vary widely from timber to timber, with some timbers containing no holes or only limited small nail holes and others containing frequent nail and bolt holes. Staining around nail and bolt holes is common.
Checking/CracksTimbers generally have a check from the heart center to one of the faces of the timber. In addition, timbers can
